Spring
arrived 2 1/2 weeks ago - though you wouldn't know it in some places! Easter is
only two weeks away!
You
know what that means? Yup! It's time for a lemony fresh and very tasty dessert
to serve your family and friends!
Last
summer, I came across a recipe for Lemon Blueberry Bars on the Kraft web site.
It sounded good but for some reason they used a yellow cake mix rather than a

December
Already?!?
Where
has the year gone?
Admittedly, I haven't gotten as much accomplished this past year as I had hoped
but it hasn't been exactly boring either. More like challenging actually....
The
glaucoma is pretty much under control with meds but my corneas have been a bit
more cloudy/blurry than usual which has slowed me down a bit and made outdoor
mobility a bit more dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-89535767302496033232018-10-21T00:00:00.000-05:002018-10-21T09:28:26.655-05:00Chocolate Pumpkin Brownies
It's
almost the end of October! Where does the time go? For me, autumn is a time to
not only enjoy the all to brief brilliant fall colours but also to play with
flavours of the season!
As
an unapologetic chocoholic, I am always playing with recipes that contain
chocolate! That being said, Pumpkins and Pumpkin Spice seem to be everywhere!
What if I could combine the two to make a dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-54603478942024857872018-03-18T00:00:00.000-05:002018-03-18T09:02:37.436-05:00Double Lemon Flan
If
the calendar is to believed, spring arrives in just a couple of days! I don't
know about your winter, but here in southern Manitoba, we've had a long and
cold one this year. Not a lot of snow but I'm looking forward to being able to take
the ice grips off my boots and putting the long johns away!
The
one advantage to our long winters, is that it gives me lots of time to play
with new dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-50235586686779269372018-02-04T00:00:00.000-06:002018-02-04T08:54:31.587-06:00Skillet Chocolate Monster Cookie
Remember
Monster Cookies? They were all the rage once upon a time. I hadn't made them in
years! Then, just over a year ago, I saw Grant Melton make a Monster Skillet Cookie on the Rachael Ray Show.
It
looked SO GOOD! I knew I needed to try it! Thankfully I had purchased an oven
proof skillet a few months earlier so I just needed to get the ingredients
together. Of course I made a couple of dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-85533343847362934162018-01-14T00:00:00.000-06:002018-01-14T00:00:25.012-06:00Nuts And Bolts
I'm
not big on snacking but when I do, one of my all time fave snacks is "Nuts
And Bolts"! Not the kind you buy in a bag or box or even in the bulk food
section of some large grocery stores. I'm talking about the homemade version!
Over
the last few months, I've seen a number of comments online about the classic
snack "Nuts And Bolts". Some love it. Some hate it. Some just find
recipes that dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-19866485544638652112017-11-12T00:00:00.000-06:002017-11-12T09:15:32.529-06:00Orange Almond Fudge Cookies
Today,
I'd like to share another cookie recipe with you. This recipe is based on yet
another of Joanne Fluke's recipes. The original recipe for "Orange Fudge
Cookies" was included in her 2017 Hannah Swensen mystery "BananaCream Pie Murder".
I
first tried making these in May of this year with these changes:
The
original recipe called for unsweetened baking chocolate squares. I almost never

Autumn
is here and so are the fresh crop of apples! Today, I'm sharing my recipe for
"Apple Sour Cream Coffee Cake"! There are countless recipes for apple
coffee cakes on the internet. This recipe is based on a blueberry coffee cake
from Mennonite Girls Can Cook.
The
basic cake batter is pretty much the same - with a few changes. Obviously, I
swapped out the blueberries for diced apples. (I dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-27357419181170863822017-09-10T00:00:00.000-05:002017-09-10T00:00:39.813-05:00A Vulture In The Guise Of A Volunteer
Over the years I've been approached numerous times by
strangers who ask about my sight and how I manage to do as much as I do on my
own. At first I was a bit surprised at others interest, but soon realized that
most people were genuinely curious. I came to appreciate people actually asking
rather than making erroneous assumptions. I also got quite good at giving

It's spring and for me, that means it's time to post
another recipe with lots of lemon flavour!
This past year, I've been working on my own version
of Limoncello Pasta!
There are a wide variety of recipes for this tasty
pasta dish on the net. Naturally, the one constant is the Limoncello! Depending
on where you live, a bottle of Limoncello can seem a bit pricy, but just
remember that it dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-91484342511565150952017-01-29T00:00:00.000-06:002017-01-29T09:20:43.635-06:00Raisin Muffins
My
mom used to make Raisin Muffins and we loved them! These were just one of the
baked treats she tried to keep in the freezer on a regular basis to serve with
tea or coffee in case unexpected company stopped by for a visit!
I've
been making her raisin muffin recipe at least once a year for a very long time!
More
recently, I decided to see if I could update the recipe just a bit. The

Okay,
I know I haven't posted for several weeks but I've been busy with my annual
Christmas baking marathon and getting all my other winter and holiday prep
done.
I've
also been working on a tasty new holiday dessert! The original idea came to me
while reading another Hannah Swensen mystery by Joanne Fluke. In the 6th book
of the series - "Sugar Cookie Murder", there is a recipe for a

Fall
has always been my favourite season. The bounty of the harvests. The mouth
watering aromas of foods cooking and baking. The scent of wood smoke and the
crunch of leaves under your feet as you walk. Mother Nature pulls out her magic
paintbrushes and the landscape is awash in spectacular colours!
For
the last few years, one of my gal pals and I have made it a tradition to go for

Well,
this self professed chocoholic has struck again!
I
honestly thought I had a recipe for something like this already but after
searching my recipe files - both on the computer and on paper - I realized that
I didn't have a Chocolate, Chocolate Chip and Almond Cookie that used sour
cream as one of the main ingredients!
The
idea came to me while reading a culinary mystery by Joanne dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-30480741170342286622016-07-17T00:00:00.000-05:002016-07-17T00:00:13.355-05:00dn's No-Bake Chocolate Cheesecake Squares
A
couple of weeks ago, I saw a tweet from Grant Melton who is part of the culinary production team on The Rachael Ray Show - and baker extraordinaire! He was doing a no-bake
dessert segment on the show that day and asked what your go to summer sweet
was.
I
was going to just send a link to this recipe - then realized that I had yet to
put it on the blog! OOPS!
So,
I dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-37952181446078229832016-06-12T00:00:00.000-05:002016-06-12T00:00:10.736-05:00Garlic And Caramelized Onion Hummus
I
make hummus throughout the year but especially enjoy it in the summer. It is
the perfect way to enjoy healthier snacks or even as a full meal. When I know
the weather forecast is going to be too hot to turn on the oven for a few days,
I often try to make up a recipe of hummus and maybe some pita chips a day or so
before the heat really sets in. Then, when it is hot. I'll cut up a bunch of dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-83666916022803639122016-04-24T00:00:00.000-05:002016-04-24T10:00:34.606-05:00dn's Chocolate Carrot Cake
Back in October of 2010, I shared myCarrot Cake recipe - which was a kicked up version of Janet and Greta
Podleski's "Must Bake Carrot Cake" from their "Crazy
Plates" cookbook.
Recently, I decided to up the ante on
this one just a bit more! I decreased the flour ever so slightly and added some cocoa powder. There was only so
much flour I was willing to risk removing, so to offset the dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-32389625741872691712016-03-20T00:00:00.000-05:002016-03-20T09:46:48.762-05:00Lemon Cream Cheese Chippers
Today
is the first full day of Spring and next Sunday is Easter! What better way to
start the new season than with a tasty new lemon cookie recipe? These would be
a lovely addition to any Easter basket or dessert table! To be honest, these
are great any time of year!
When
I first came up with the idea for this recipe, I assumed that I'd find several
similar ones online already. Well, not dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-6693742905837513012016-02-28T00:00:00.000-06:002016-02-28T09:35:03.395-06:00CNIB ID Card Needs Better Information For Users
Being legally blind, I have a CNIB Photo ID card which
allows me to, among other things, ride regular local (Winnipeg) transit for
free. The card is good for 5 years. In the past, CNIB clients would get a bit
of notice before it expired so that we could get a new photo taken to submit

In early January. I realized that my card expired at the

I've
never been an overly big soup lover. I enjoy a bowl now and then - especially
when it is really cold out! I will occasionally order it in a restaurant but
generally, I just buy a few cans of soup every year. I just don't like making
big quantities of homemade soup - nor do I have the freezer space for it.
Finding good soup recipes that I would enjoy AND that only make 3 or 4 servings

I
have always had a bit of an eclectic taste in music and that is even more so
when it comes to Christmas music. I've never been a big fan of the choral or
old traditional hymn versions of songs. For the most part, I prefer fairly
mellow, easy listening holiday music with a generous dose of more modern
standards that have been made popular by performers of the last 75 years. Like

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last
week or so, you've no doubt heard that Starbucks new holiday cup for the 2015
season seems to be going over like a lump of coal. In the past, the coffee
giant has offered a variety of designs to celebrate the festive season. This

According to the calendar, we are almost halfway through
Autumn but you'd never know it by looking at the trees around here!

it always seems that those in Eastern Canada and the North-Eastern United

Apples are in great supply come autumn. I'll gladly
eat apples any time of the year, but I also love finding and creating recipes with apples!
Today, I thought I'd share a cake recipe that is
perfect for fall or any time you want a delicious treat!
A month or so ago, I had some apples that needed to
be used up, so I went looking for an apple cake recipe. Of course, a Google
search showed dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4188690677967134445.post-32806799127152104412015-09-06T00:00:00.000-05:002015-09-06T09:10:17.850-05:00More Summer Views
September has arrived and summer is quickly drawing to a
close. We've had some insanely hot and humid days (and nights!)here in Winnipeg. We've had
some torrential like rainfalls. We've had hazy skies. We've had days that were
cooler than normal and days that were right on seasonal norms. In other words,
this summer had a bit of almost everything!
As someone who doesn't like the heat, I'm dnsyl57http://www.blogger.com/profile/02549565529769426465noreply@blogger.com0
